This elegant and ethereal contemporary wall sculpture, by Stefen Duerst, is hot-formed steel, powder-coated yellow, and finished with a double layer of German 24-karat gold leaf. Available on commission, please allow 8 weeks for completion. The Canadian artist hand-forges these lyrical abstract forms from one continuous wide ribbon of steel to create fluid ‘curls’ that appear to express energy in motion. Duerst looks to nature’s energy—earth, wind, fire, and water for his inspiration and juxtaposes organic shapes with industrial materials. Duerst’s artworks can now be found in many prestigious public collections throughout North America. One of a series. “The Soul Gate has been a labour of love, covering that entire piece with 24-karat German gold leaf over a Savannah gold powder-coated base. Really love the result and the ‘old world feeling’ of this one.” Stefan Duerst. Stefan Duerst was born and raised in Munich, Germany. He apprenticed under a Master Blacksmith and worked in both metal design and fabrication. He completed his Masters in Metalwork with distinction. Stefan Duerst has exhibited throughout North America. His sculptures can be found in both private and public collections in Canada, the US, and Europe including Canadian Embassies in London, Morocco, and Washington.
